UN Girl Scout Incident
Another Warning to Parents
Dear Supporter of the Family,
As we noted
in our first report from the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) a
couple of weeks ago, Family Watch was the first organization to report the stunning story of a highly sexually
graphic booklet that was available at a parallel event held by the Girl Scouts
of the U.S.A. called “Girls Only Workshop.” This story has created quite a stir in the
U.S.
and in other countries.
Fox News in
the
U.S.
and Lifesite News are among those who have contacted
me to get the details of how I obtained the highly objectionable booklet, Healthy,
Happy, and Hot: A young person’s guide to their rights, sexuality and living
with HIV, in the back of
the room of this “Girls Only” event. Both these reporters had contacted the Girl Scout organization, which
they informed me had flatly denied any connection
between their workshop and this booklet. Based on the interest and some of the emails
we have gotten from Girl Scout leaders, the Girl Scouts know they have a
problem and think that if they simply deny it, it will just go away.
For that
reason alone, I want to set the record straight because this incident should be
another warning for parents to be very aware of what schools and organizations
are teaching their children.
As I
outlined in our previous CSW newsletter, I had walked into the room as the
“Girls Only” event was beginning and was promptly asked to leave. I did, but I remained just outside the closed
door for the duration of the workshop. When the event was over, I immediately
entered the room so I could determine what kinds of literature were made
available to the girls participating in the event. After everything I have seen over the years, I
shouldn’t have been surprised to see a stack of booklets on the table from none
other than the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). But I was. Their blatant, in-your-face promotion of sexuality to children always
takes me aback. This booklet was no
exception.
The booklet (click here for a pdf version) is a classic example of the sort of “sexuality education” that organizations
like IPPF spend millions of dollars on in order to sexualize children
throughout the world. Information such
as:
[WARNING. The following excerpts may be offensive to some readers.]
“Young people living with HIV have the right to sexual
pleasure. Sex can feel great and can be really fun! Many people think
sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse… But, there are lots of different
ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex. [A variety
of verbs describing sexual acts are listed next] . . . . Some people like to
have aggressive sex, while others like to have soft and slow sex with their
partners. There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore
and be yourself!”
“Sharing your HIV status is called disclosure. Your decision about
whether to disclose may change with different people and situations. You have
the right to decide if, when, and how to disclose your HIV status.”
“Improve your sex
life by getting to know your own body. Play with yourself! Masturbation is a
great way to find out more about your body and what you find sexually
stimulating.”
(Click here to read more excerpts from
this booklet)
While the Girl Scouts are claiming
they had nothing to do with distributing the booklets, clearly, they were on
the table during the event and were freely available to the girls who attended. They have tried to claim that they were left by those who had made
presentations earlier in the day in that same room. This is hardly possible. It was the first day of the conference, and a
check of the groups scheduled earlier showed that the previous events were
totally unrelated to the topic of the pamphlet.
As the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute
reported, the Girl Scouts maintain they have no connection to Planned Parenthood.
Yet
the Girl Scouts have regularly co-sponsored conferences in Waco, Texas with
Planned Parenthood on sex education where on one occasion, a sex book was
distributed to 700 girls that condones masturbation and contains explicit
drawings of couples having sex and a boy putting on a condom.
Cathy Cloninger, CEO of the Girl
Scouts of the
USA
admitted after
the
Waco event that
“…we partner with many organizations. We have relationships with our
church communities, with YWCAs, and with Planned Parenthood organizations
across the country, to bring information-based sex education programs to
girls.” So you can see that this recent
claim by the Girl Scouts that they have no connection to Planned Parenthood is
simply untrue.
For more
details about the sexual rights agenda the Girls Scouts of the
USA
promoted at
the UN Commission on the Status of Women, check out C-Fam’s report here. We join with the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute in calling upon the
Girl Scouts of the
USA
to renounce the sex
guide, renounce their association with Planned Parenthood and withdraw from the
World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides.
Contrast this with a parallel event
Family Watch held during the second week of CSW. We brought in Miriam Grossman, M.D. to the UN to tell the truth about “comprehensive sexuality education” in a
presentation entitled “When Sex Education is Harmful: A physician's
evidence-based critique of human sexuality education.”
Dr. Grossman
presented startling scientific facts and showed how the sexual rights-based
approach to sex ed is causing irreparable harm to
youth. You can see Dr. Grossman’s eye-opening
presentation here. During Dr. Grossman’s
presentation, three women in the audience were rolling their eyes and shaking
their heads in disgust the entire time. At
the conclusion of the presentation, one of them leaped to her feet and angrily
demanded the opportunity to rebut the facts that Dr. Grossman presented. We informed her that because our next event in
that room was scheduled to begin immediately, she could speak to Dr. Grossman
in the hallway outside the room, but she disappeared.
Family Watch is indebted to Dr.
Grossman for her willingness to help us spread the word about the damage caused
by organizations like IPPF and for her excellent presentation. I encourage you to watch it and to visit her Web
site.
We were
fortunate that IPPF was so open about their sex education agenda this year, as
this made it much easier for us to expose their radical sexual ideologies. You may want to check out your local youth
programs, YMCAs, and Girl Scout troops, as one of the speakers at another CSW
side event sponsored by IPPF boasted how they planned to exploit “informal
education” to teach children to accept homosexual and transgender lifestyles
among other things.
Parents beware!
Sincerely,

Sharon Slater

We Urgently Need Your Help!
We have never faced greater challenges to the family and family values than we do now and there is no doubt these challenges will only increase in the months ahead. Not only do we face more threats at the UN than ever before but at the national level we are fighting to defend marriage in the U.S., prevent the liberalization of abortion and dealing with other issues as well. As a result, our budget is stretched to the breaking point.
Please help in this effort to defend the family and family values by making the most generous contribution you can. Contributions are tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers and any amount you contribute will be used effectively and efficiently. You can easily make a secure contribution on line here or print out a form to mail in a contribution.

Have We Gone MAD?
Bizarre, real-life examples that make us wonder. . . Have We Gone MAD?
Swiss Miss
Coming on the heels of a recent British report that concluded that children are “overexposed to sexual imagery,” which if I’m not mistaken results in a boatload of negative outcomes including premature sexual activity, epidemic sexually transmitted diseases in teens, and increasing numbers of unwed teenage mothers, one Swiss company apparently has the answer.
More parental supervision?
No.
Stricter regulation of the media?
Nah.
Built-in filters in computers and cell phones?
Nope.
Lamprecht AG has the answer. The Swiss company is now producing the “Hotshot.” A condom sized especially for (are you sitting down?) 12 year olds. That’s right. A mini-condom just for kids.
Could it possibly be that there is a good reason that, until now, condoms were produced in adult sizes? Could it be because sexual behavior is best left . . . I don’t know . . . TO ADULTS??
Though the condoms are reasonably priced by adult standards, pre-teen boys may have to choose what to spend their allowance on . . . baseball cards . . . lunch at the drive-through . . . an hour at the arcade . . .or … a pack of Hotshots.
